One can count the number of memorable people that they have known in their lives on one hand.
On my hand is Pastor Gordon Blenkhorn.
I first met Gordon when he opened his home for those of us who were working with CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship). We were welcomed and encouraged with his usual friendly, vivacious style, which always warmed us to our toes.
When either Mom or Dad would be hospitalized for surgeries, it was always Gordon who appeared like an angel of mercy to help ward off our fears. He would pray with us and share his joy and we felt so much more relieved during their medical procedures.
When I grow up, I'd like to be the shining example of love that so defines Pastor Blenkhorn and I thank God for his example !!!!!

One thing I always loved about my mom and dad was that they knew that family was important, and even though we lived in Canada most of my life, it was always important to go to California and see my Aunt Ginny and Uncle Gordon. Little did I know that this link would serve a greater purpose when I moved to California and attended Bible College. I loved to visit my Uncle Gordon as a kid and often thought that his rides on the freeway were far more exciting than anything that Disneyland could offer! As I grew up and went into the ministry I respected his dedication to the Lord and his stamina in the ministry. Being a pastor is a very demanding job, but Uncle Gordon did it with ease, care, and compassion! We are very jealous of you Uncle Gordon, for you get to meet our Father before us, and we are also very sad because there is a big hole left in the place where I always expected my Uncle would be. I think my husband said it best, "I am sure that Gordon is weaving in and out of traffic on the street of gold right now!" Till we see each other again!

I was a member of Bethany many years ago. My late husband Merv and I were fortunate to count the Blenkhorns among our friends. I remember Gordon as a kind, loving, Godly man with a sweet spirit. He served the Lord with gladness for many years. He will be missed by so many people.

How fortunate for us, that Aunt Ginny would bring Gordon and his family, into our family. Gordon transcends any title that you could have given him, so I affectionately referred to him as my: “Uncle Reverend Doctor Gordon W. Blenkhorn III retired”. Most importantly I knew him as Friend and Brother in Christ.
Gordon embodied for me Gods hands, feet, and words of encouragement. Always there to lend a helping hand to those in need, and going where others hesitated to go because it might be too difficult. His concern for you could be seen deep in his eyes, with an arm on your shoulder, and a smile on his face. You didn’t even have to ask if he was praying for you……...you just knew he was.
We will miss his positive outlook on life, his love for people, and his example of love towards God. But, what a celebration in GLORY!!!

Always There" Dr Blenkhorn was always near when The Carson Family faced Serious Medical Problems I don't think there is a Hospital in L.A. or Orange County that Dr Blenhorn had not visited" He was an Amazing Man" One of God's Best and Faithful Servants. I want to share one of many incidents that depics Dr Blenhorns Dedication to the Lord" Linda and I had Moved to Corona Ca for a short Period of Time" We kept in touch with our friends at Bethay during this time, One Morning I was getting ready for work and a Sharp Pain began attacking my body" Linda had left for work already So I called a Fellow Corona Church Member Rob Williams came and Drove Me to Corona Regional Hospital, Linda was on her way back to Corona but She called Bethany to put Me on the Prayer Chain"
Word Spread Fast that I was Taken to the Hospital, It wasn't 2 hrs and Dr Blenhorn showed up, and then Pastor Mike Lance from Calvery Church Corona arrived" The Doctors were Impressed and wondering Who I was that Two Pastors would show up to pray with Me?. This was Dr Blenhorns Ministry to go to where the Sick and Hurting were and Bring Hope and God's Word Tremendous Impact on My Life for which I am Eternally Grateful.

There is much I could say about Gordon. To me, he's been such a wonderful reflection of God, through his willingness to give of himself for the sake of others, his willingness to put others' needs above his own, and to pray whenever the need arose. Not long after I became a Christian, I internally struggled with the prior death of my father. My dad never mentioned Christ, and I had no comfort about where he would spend his eternal life. As well, my beloved Grandma was near the end of her life. Gordon found out she was sick, sought me out, and made arrangements to visit her. However, this was not God's plan, even though Gordon was so willing. She died before Gordon could get to her. The following Sunday morning, Gordon learned of her death and he wanted to pray right then and there, in the foyer of the church, with his wife Ginny, for my Grandmother. He didn't care that there were others around. We stood in a small circle with our arms around each other and prayed. I will never forget his prayer, for it had a powerful impact on my thinking. He simply told God that although we had no idea where the spirits of my Dad and Grandmother were, he placed his trust and faith that GOD knew, and that God could provide any means (even apart from our knowing) for them to be saved. I learned that very day it was not my job to try to discern where people would go when they died, that my Holy, Righteous, Loving, Faithful Father knew, and for the first time in my new spiritual walk, I felt comfort and at peace in the Lord. Despite the fact that Gordon never met my Grandmother, he showed up at her funeral and comforted unbelievers in my family.
Years went by, and yet Gordon still watched out for the sick. He strove to find out where he could be used of God. Somehow he learned that my Aunt was dying of kidney failure in a hospital 2 hours away. Gordon sought me out, and asked if he could visit.
I loved Gordon... his dedication to God and commitment to serve no matter where it took him has made a lasting imprint on my life.
I praise God that he is finally at rest with his precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I praise God that he is in a sin free existence, that he is able to forever praise God without anything holding him back.
May his family be comforted by the promises of God. I want to say thank you to his family, for being willing to share him and allow God to use him in such a capacity.
Gordon will never be forgotton!

Gordon touched the lives of many by spreading the good word of our lord and savior to everyone he met. We feel so blessed to have had the privilege to have known Gordon. We will remember Gordon always offering to pray for us, encouraging us to seek the Lord in prayer, speaking kind encouraging words and sharing the good news of our savior. The memory of his contagious smile will be a constant reminder to us of his love of the Lord and the Lord shinning through Gordon. Gordon will forever remain in our hearts and will be greatly missed. All of his family and friends are in our prayers.

My Uncle Gordon, Great Uncle in more than one way. My prayer warrior. He prayed for my girls and now he is gone. I will miss knowing that he isn't here to continue to pray. I loved him and will miss him.

Gordon has always been an encourger to those of us in pastoral ministry. Every time we'd be together, he'd always want to know how our church ws doing and have encouraging things to share. I meet with the Alliance pastor, here in Grand Junction regularly. A few years ago after attending their annual conference, he told me, "I met your uncle." Today, when we met, I told him about Gordan's passing. And he expressed what a great man Gordon was and the inspiration and encouragement he had been in their brief meeting at that conference a few yeas ago.
I just thought it would bless you to know that Gordon's influence reached way beyond anything any of us knows. There are scores of people that only eternity will reveal the impact Gordon had.
Our hearts go out to each of you and our prayers are with you.
Love, Mark and Robyn

I only knew Gordon for a few years, but wow! what a wonderfully positive person. I never heard him say anything but words of affirmation for others he met. Not only was he positive, but he was also young at heart.
One vivid memory I have regarding Gordon's youthfulness relates back to a family reunion in Oklahoma in (I believe) 2000. During a golf tournament, Gordon walked 9 holes at a local golf course at the young age of 85.
What an inspiration he was and still is and what a shining example of Christ. Gordon will truly be missed.
