Keith Tustison a devoted husband of 57 years to Joan. Keith emulated the example of commitment, to his wife, his four children and their spouses and four grandchildren. This commitment was also seen in how he cared for others in his family. He was a caretaker for many of the family, His grandmother Abbey, mother and her husband Kathryn and John Bailey, his sister Caroline, plus his mother-in- law Vera Bell. He was generous with his time and money to these and other family members
Some words that describe Keith are:
Determine, he could fix or learn most anything,
Brilliant craftsman could build and repair wood, metal.
Self educated, after his formal education was finished he still studied and learn. He understood computers in their infancy
Mechanical, repaired all the cars and appliances
Self-content, shy, conservative, good steward, Kind, gentle,
Keith was born March 15, 1927 in Wapello, Iowa. He was raise in this small town by his loving grandmother Abbey Spitsnogle Tustison. Keith had three half siblings Caroline, Allene, and Roy “Bud” Miller. He is survived by Bud Miller his brother and Clarksiene Ricketts cousin. His wife Joan Marie Bell Tustison, children Larry (Lorrie), Steve (Robyn), Barbara (Kent Sandlin), Ken, four grandchildren Rachel (David Lira), Susan (Greg Bonin), Scott, and the newest addition Jackson Kent Sandlin.
This devotion was evident in many of his life choices. He worked for 39 years at Rockwell as an electronic technician testing classified guidance systems. He was a blood donor of many years and many gallons. Even though Keith was a very shy person when the need presented itself he jumped in the role of cub master and then treasurer for boy scouts troop 86 from 1963-1973. Keith loved nature and spent many years going on canoe trips down the Colorado River and backpacking in the Sierra Mountains with his son’s troop.
During his retirement years he and Joan enjoyed many trips back to Wapello for his class reunions. They also travel all over the Midwest and south exploring their genealogy roots. This started as his wife’s passion and he soon joined in.
Keith was in the Army Air core during Korean War where he trained in radio/ radar. When the war ended he moved to L. A. to study at a radio / TV/ electronics school. Keith’s’ brilliance showed in his mechanical, woodworking and metal work. He had constructions skills building too many items to list. This skill made him and his garage a magnet to local men and boys. The family has had stories share with them of these local guys and their fascination with Keith skills and knowledge. These skills have been past down to his children who each are successful entrepreneurs, the youngest in sound and production technician in the music industry. Even his three grown grandchildren show many mechanical skills.
Keith past away 2/13/10 and will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
